How to Spend Your Winter Break

The tradition of celebrating spring break has been enjoyed by adventurous college students and teenagers for generations. The annual migration to warmer climates and southern beaches starts in early March and continues through April. Leaving the college campuses quiet and deserted, students travel to exotic, tropical locations like Panama City Beach, South Padre Island, Lake Havana and Cancan.

Known for its cure for the rigours of academic life, spring breakers partake and indulge in beer and intoxication, experimental sex and mind altering drugs. Spring breakers like to cut loose, have a good time and create memories that will last for the rest of their lives.

But is there a way to enjoy spring break without going overboard? Students of all ages have to use their head and use good judgement when they are participating in activities that can have a real, and sometimes dramatic, affect on the rest of their lives. College students aren't thinking of the consciences that can come from public drunkenness and sexual promiscuousness.

Some college students take spring break in stride. They plan accordingly as to what they would need for there adventures in the sun. More then one bathing suit is securely packed in the suitcase along with plenty of stylish party clothes and shoes. These go getters don't leave caution to the wind. They gather a group of friends and rent a large house for easier party fulfilment.

Try enjoying a spring break closer to home. Instead of going to warmer climates, travel to a ski resort. Spend time with friends skiing, snowboarding or ice skating. Light a fire, crack open the beer and party with friends during spring break in a non-traditional manner. With the holidays amongst us, college athletes get lazy. The long awaited winter break is a great time for college athletes to slack off in their training. Reuniting with family and friends, while sharing recent school experiences, can distract an athlete from continuing their workouts with the same intensity and focus as they had prior to the winter months.

Bars and clubs view these school breaks as a money machine, advertising specials that persuade young students to spend the little money they have. How can one pass on a dollar beer special? Everyday of the week another bar holds a "college night" where the masses migrate to dance, socialize and drink.

Night after night of drinking and not abiding by your previous consistent sleep pattern throws the body off, which leads to sluggishness and improper eating. Waking up in the morning becomes increasingly difficult while lying around easier than ever. This is the winter break and you need to have some down time, however too much down time will hurt all the hard work you did during the fall.
